The mathnawi written in 841, narrates the birth of the prophet
Muhammad. The only copy known is incomplete, including only the first
216 couplets of the work which must be 743 couplets in total. It is the third Mevlid
written in Turkish literature after Aḥmedī (d.
815/1412-13)’s the Mevlid and
Süleymān Çelebi (d. 825/1422)’s the
Vesīletü’n-necāt.
The mathnawi written in 841, depicts the prophet
Muhammad's ascension. The only copy known of the work which must be
consisted of 1855 couplets, has 1729 couplets; having missing parts from the
beginning and in the middle.
ʿĀrif’s first work is a didactic mathnawi written in 841, consisting of
2042 couplets, in which the narrator gives counsels about religion, tasawwuf and
ethics.
The mathnawi consisting of 368 couplets is written in 841. It is about
the Sufi understanding of human being holding a microcosmos in himself. In this
work, ʿĀrif explains the idea that every element in the universe has an
equivalent in human body.
The mathnawi accomplished in 5th
Rebīʿü’l-āḫir 842, consisting of 1402 couplets is about the sickness and
the death of the prophet Muhammad and how these
incidents affected his companions. At the end of the Vefātü’n-nebī, ʿĀrif gives the total number of the
couplets contained in his five mathnawis, consisting of 4000 in total.
