He has lived during the reign of Murād II (824/1421-855/1451). He is famous for
his only work known to us, the Ḳābūsnāme, the best known of the several translations of this Persian work in Old Anatolian Turkish.
This is another translation of Kaykāvūs b. Iskandar (d. after 475/1082)
’s work by the same name in Turkish language. As related by the author in the introduction,
Murād II (824/1421-855/1451) was dissatisfied with one of the previous translations of the work which he found hard to understand and ordered
Mercimek Aḥmed to make a better translation.
Mercimek Aḥmed states that he completed the work in
23 Shaʿbān, 835 and enriched the
text by giving the necessary explanations. The work comprises the advice given by
Kaykāvūs b. Iskandar (d. after 475/1082) to his son on how to be a better ruler.
