Ḥamza-nāme
A legendary prose work on the life and battles of Ḥamza b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, which was the first of its kind in Turkish. It consists of 72 volumes, two of which are not extant. The work was probably part of the repertoire of storytellers before being put down in writing by Ḥamzavī. Manuscript records of storytelling events in which it was performed indicate that its popularity lasted up to the 20th century. These records show that the work was performed in coffee shops, government institutions including the military, schools, homes, hospitals and shops.
Ḳıṣṣa-i İskender
The second known versified Alexander (336 B.C. – 323 B.C.) romance written in Turkish. It is part verse and part prose.
