Biographical notes
A religious scholar originally from Khwarazm, Najm al-Dīn al-Zāhidī al-Ghazmīnī first travelled first to Baghdad (Iraq) before settling and teaching in Anatolia for an undesignated period of time. He later returned to his home in western Khwarazm, which at the time was under the rule of Berke Khan, d. 1266 of the Golden Horde. It is reported by the Ottoman biographerMaḥmûd b. Süleymân Kefevî, d. 1582 that the shaykh Ede Bâlî, the father-in-law of Osman, the eponymous founder of the Ottomans, studied under Najm al-Dīn al-Zāhidī al-Ghazmīnī at a madrasa in Larende (today’s Karaman).

Qunyat al-munyah li’-tatīmma al-ghunyah
A collection of Hanafi legal decisions of considerable authority, selected and analysed from the legal cases and fatwās of the author’s teacher, the Khwārazmian qadi, Fakhr al-Dīn al-Badīʿas contained in his works al-Baḥr al-muḥīt (البحر المحيط) and Munyat al-fuqahā’ (منية الفقهاء)). Zeki Velidi Togan first noted that the work contains phrases in the largely lost Iranian Khwarazmian language. The work also contains interesting information on conditions in mid-thirteenth-century Khwārazm following the Mongol invasions.
