Biographical notes
Rāzī, Muḥammad ibn Abī Bakr,‏ active 1261‏ محمد بن ابي بكر الرازي was born in Ray (Iran)‏ and educated in Bukhara (Uzbekistan)‏‏ and Samarqand (Uzbekistan)‏. He may have fled west because of the Mongol advance, coming first to Mardin (Turkey)‏, where he wrote several works, and seems to have received Artuqid patronage. At an unknown point he came to Konya (Turkey) where he was associated with the circle of Ṣadr al-Dīn al-Qūnawī, Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq,‏ -1273 or 1274, ‏ صدر الدين القونوي. He wrote on a wide range of subjects, including language and lexicography, tafsir and Sufism. His death date is unknown, but in Konya (Turkey) in 667 AH [1268-1269 CE] he copied Ghazzālī‏’s al-Wajīz () (). An audition note in a manuscript of Ibn al-Athīr, Majd al-Dīn al-Mubārak ibn Muḥammad 1149-1209‏’s Jāmi‘ al-Uṣūl () from the Khalidiyya library in Jerusalem‏ dated 666 AH [1267-1268 CE] shows he obtained an ijāza in Konya (Turkey) from Ṣadr al-Dīn al-Qūnawī, Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq,‏ -1273 or 1274‏ صدر الدين القونوي for the work.
His nisba is also given in one ms as al-Shīrāzī (3a). This seems to be a mistake
