- His laqab is given variously in the mss as Jamāl al-Dīn or Sirāj al-Dīn; in many mss his name also appears as Yūsuf b. Abī Sa ‘īd b. Aḥmad al-Sijistānī, which is how he is listed by Brockelman ; however the form given above appears in the autograph and is to be preferred). Very little is known of the author, beyond that he was active in 638 AH [1240 CE] in Sivas, where he copied his major work on Hanafi fiqh, the Munyat al-Muftī (منية المفتي) . This enjoyed considerable popularity, especially in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Very few manuscripts later than the fifteenth century have survived, presumably indicating a decline in popularity.

- The work is a compendium of legal opinions (fatāwā) based on al-Fatāwā al-Ṣughrā (الفتاوى الصغرى) ascribed to Najm al-Dīn al-Khāṣī, نجم الدين الخاصي, and the fatwas of Sirāj al-Dīn al-Ashī, سراج الدين الاشي. The book is intended as a convenient compendium for jurists (faqihs) so they do not have to carry lots of books around when travelling: وارجو ان يستغني الفقيه باستصحابه عن حمل الكتب الكبار واستصحاب الاسفار في الاسفار وسميته منية المفتي. The work opens with opinions on ritual purity (ṭahāra), before preceding to deal with prayer, zakat, hajj and so on. Siraj al-Din al-Ashi’s opinons are clearly differentiated throughout the work being marked with a sīn (س).
