Biographical notes
A physician and author in the service of several rulers, including the Germiyanid Yaʿḳūb Beg of Kütahya, and the Ottoman sultans, Meḥmed I and Murad II. He spent the latter part of his life in Bursa. He has been confused with his contemporary, Maḥmūd b. Muḥammed Dilşad Şükrullâh Şirvānī, author Murādnāme and Tarīḫ-i İbn Kesīr Tercümesi, and has been dubiously attributed with these following works: Kemāliyye, Bāhnāme Tercümesi and Harīdetü’l-Acā’ib ve Cerīdetü’l-Garā’ib Tercümesi.

Notes
Specifically prepared for the Ottoman sultan Murad II in 833 AH [1430 CE] in Bursa, this work of 32 chapters is an expanded version of the Cevhernāme, a Turkish adaptation of Aḥmad ibn Yūsuf al-Tīfāshī (d. 651/1253)’s lapidary, the Azḥār al-Afkār fī jawāhir al-aḥjār (“Best Thoughts on the Best of Stones”), which was written around 1240 [1240 CE] and describes the special properties of 25 gems and minerals, including their medicinal and magical uses. The author draws on additional later authorities, primarily Naṣīr al-Dīn Ṭūsī (d. 1274)’s work on gemology, Tansūkhnāma-yi īlkhānī.
The place of composition is Bursa.
