- ʿĀrif ʿAlī is known as the author of the second Dānişmend-nāme written in Turkish literature. He rearranged and rewrote İbn ʿAlā (d. after 642/1245)’s Dānişmend-nāme at the behest of Murād II (824/1421-855/1451) According to ʿĀlī (d. 1008/1600) he was one of the mesne lords of his time. When he offered his work to Murād II (824/1421-855/1451) the sultan assigned him as the commander of Toḳat citadel and gave many presents to him as well. Although the date 762 AH [1360-1361 CE] given by ʿĀlī (d. 1008/1600) for the production of ʿĀrif ʿAlī’s the Dānişmend-nāme points to the reign of Murād I (763/1362-791/1389) the consensus is that the sultan ordering ʿĀrif ʿAlī to write the Dānişmend-nāme must have been Murād II (824/1421-855/1451) because Toḳat was not under the dominion of the first but the second.

- Dānişmend-nāme
- ʿĀrif ʿAlī notes in his work that he has rearranged İbn ʿAlā (d. after 642/1245)’s The Dānişmend-nāme, which no copy of it survived today, in 17 sections, made it easier to read, added also some verse parts and embellished it. The work tells the heroic saga of Dānişmend Ġāzī (d. 477/1085 ?) who fought the Byzantines and contributed to the conquest and Islamisation of Anatolia.
