This work is the oldest Turkish bāhnāme,
a kind of health manual dealing sexual activity and intercourse, or jimāʿجِمَاع),
one of the six non-naturals effecting one’s humoural balance, and thus in need of
careful regulation according to traditional Galenic medicine. Composed of eighteen
chapters, this work is a Turkish translation/adaptation of Nasīr al-Dīn Ṭūsī (d. 673/1274)’s Persian work
al-Bāb al-bāhiyya fī’l-tarākībiya
al-ṣulṭaniyya, produced for Saruhanoğlu Yaʿqūb b. Devletḫān (r. ca.
809-815/1407-1412) ruler of the Demirci branch of the Saruhanid
