Saʿāt-nāme
This eschatological work named “the Book of the Hour,” was composed for a popular audience in a straightforward Turkish, with anecdotes interpersed with material from the Qurʾān and prophetic hadith. It purports to serve as a vehicle of salvation: the author claims that, through his spiritual link with the Prophet, he will save the soul of those who revere and disseminate this work. In addition to providing calendrical information, the work divides the day into 5 periods (saʿāt), and specifies which prayers should be said in each time of the day. With its promises of salvation, the work attained a magical aura over time. Show more
