ʻAyn al-Quḍāh al-Hamadhānī, ʻAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad, -1131
Biographical notes
Born of a line of scholars, studied Arabic grammar, theology, philosophy and
law, and he is said to have, as an already precocious scholar, started his first
book at the age of 14. He converted to Sufism 517/1123, and apparently met
Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Ghazzālī,
-1126, brother of the great theologian Ghazzālī, 1058-1111, who is said to have
initiated him into meditation and dancing. He gained him many disciples thanks to
his spiritual reputation. His activities soon provoked the hostility of the
orthodox theologians. He was executed in a barbarous manner during the night of
6-7 Jumādā II 526 [1131 CE] at the age of
