According to Ṭāshkubrīʹzādah,
Aḥmad ibn Muṣṭafá, 1495-1561 تشکبري زاده، أحمد بن

Anatolia and
entered the service of sultan Bayezid I, Sultan of
the Turks, approximately 1360-1403. He also received patronage from
Timur, 1336-1405, and then travelled
widely. He wrote on language, hadith and tafsir, and was considered one of the
outstanding scholars of the eighth/fourteenth century. He is best known for his
Arabic dictionary, al-Qāmūs al-Muḥīṭ. To
date, no works composed by Fīrūzābādī, Muḥammad ibn Yaʻqūb, 1329-1414 or 1415 فيرزوأبادي، محمد بن يعقوب in Anatolia have been
identified. His main patron appears to have been the amir of Taʻizz
in Yemen, al-Malik al-Ashraf Ismā‘īl b. ‘Abbās, to whom he dedicated
several works. His inclusion by Ṭāshkubrīʹzādah,
Aḥmad ibn Muṣṭafá, 1495-1561 تشکبري زاده، أحمد بن
مصطفى among the scholars of Bayezid I, Sultan of the Turks, approximately 1360-1403’s reign
must be regarded as somewhat suspect in view of its apparent lack of support from
other sources, and is perhaps a typical attempt by this author to promote the
prestige of the Ottoman house by associating prominent contemporary ‘ulama with
then. Nevertheless, the al-Qāmūs al-Muḥīṭ
was extremely widely read in the Ottoman lands.
