- Notes
- Dursun Faḳīh penned this ġazavātnāme in the format of mathnawī ranging from 1111 to 1366 couplets, depending on the manuscript, narrating the maghāzī of ʿAlī b. Abū Ṭālib (علي بن ابو طالب), his sons Ḥasan (حسن) and Ḥusayn (حسين), and the famous early Muslim commander, Khālid b. Walīd (خالد بن واليد). ʿAlī's heroic exploits, as well as the self-sacrifices he made in the name of Islam, are emphasized throughout the work. Full of jinns (such as the jinn named Ṣanduḳ), ifrits, divs and other wounderous beings, the Cumhūrnāme represents a legendery retelling of the early maghāzī. Cumhūr, the padishāh of ‘Ummān, is an imaginary figure who features solely in this work. Muḥammad sends an envoy to Cumhūr to invite him to Islam, but he refuses. ʿAlī marches onto ‘Ummān with an army and conquers the city. Only after the conquest does Cumhūr convert. Cumhūr's brother Sicinlik, the padishāh of a nearby imaginary island, had earlier refused to convert, and had been defeated in battle by the Muslims. Sicinlik's daughter, Mekenki, however converts under the influence of ʿAlī, and takes the name Zelīḥa. The work place of composition is western Anatolia, most likely Bilecik.
- This manuscript, entitled Cumhūr-nāme, was first discussed by Köprülü, and consists of 1366 couplets.
- The work begins with the following couplet: Başladum evvel söze Allāh didüm / Söz tamām oldı ki Bismi’l-lāh didüm.
- The work ends with the following couplet: Geçdi bunlar kaldı sözi yādigār / Çün ömür versin size Perverdigār.
