Biographical notes
Ottoman scholar who was probably born in İznik, where he must have obtained his education. We know very little about his life. He had good relations with political figures such as Timurtaş Paşazāde Umūr Bey and Çandarlı İbrāhīm Paşazāde Meḥmed as well as religious figures such as Emīr Sulṭān. The autograph copy of his Enfesü’l-cevāhir is dated 838 AH [1434-1435 CE], indicating that he must have died after this date. His date of death appears as 833 AH [1430 CE], 838 AH [1434-1435 CE], and 850 AH [1446 CE] in the sources. Mūsā İzniḳī was proficient in Arabic and Persian. He had an important role in the establishment of Turkish as a language of science. He also treated Sufi topics in his works.
