Biographical notes
Muḥammad b. Ghāzi Malaṭyawī was a native of Malatya, and active at the Seljuk court. He appears to have served as tutor to ‘Izz al-Dīn Kaykā’us, the future Seljuq sultan, and at one point in his works alludes to a fall from grace which forced him into exile in Harran. His works, written in an elaborate Persian style, represent some of the earliest attempts at composing a sophisticated courtly literature in Anatolia.
