Notes
This Turkish prose work of 41 chapters interspersed with Persian, Arabic, and Turkish verse provides a basic religious information with sections on the sacred Islamic months of Rajab, Shaʿbān, and Ramaḍan, and other sacred nights on the Islamic calendar, as well as select biographies of prophets, explanations of ḥadīth and certain verses of the Qurʾān, and other bits of religious miscellany. Its composition date is unknown, but it is believed to have been written sometime in between the late thirteenth century [1200-1299 CE] or early fourteenth century [1300-1399 CE], as the well-known copy dated from 703 AH [1303 CE] suggests. However, with the recent discovery of a previously unknown manuscript ( Süleymaniye, Yazma Bağışlar no. 4040), Mustafa Koç suggests an earlier and more definitive composition date at 685 AH [1286 CE], making this the earliest datable Anatolian Turkish work and manuscript. Place of composition is Karahisar-i Develü (outside of Kayseri).
